Fort Sanders Neighborhood

I had a great time shooting Fort Sanders for the Metro Pulse. This is my third profile of Knoxville neighborhoods in what is becoming a semi-regular series for the publication.

Photographing neighborhoods has been interesting and challenging. In shooting first two, Central Street and Vestal, a work pattern developed that carried over to Fort Sanders, and I imagine I will use it for the next one. Since I have little first-hand experience with many of Knoxville's neighborhoods, beside driving through or visiting friends, I first reach out to the Metro Pulse editors and writer  Jack Neely, who does a wonderful job adding history and context to these photos. They then send me a long list of interesting things and places to keep an eye out for.

Day one of working on a new neighborhood is spent just walking the streets, trying to get a sense of the area. I check out the buildings, signs, bars, and people roaming around.
